How to gain organic and ethical Amazon reviews

Last week’s blog focused on the dark arts of fake reviews on Amazon and the damage they are doing to the platform.

But with the review system so important to being successful on the site, it’s important to understand that there are effective and ethical ways to gain positive feedback.

One of those is Amazon’s relatively new “Request a Review” button. By clicking on it, Amazon will send an email to your customer asking them to leave a product review and seller feedback.

Thompson and Holt managing partner Craig Gedey says it is a tool that can be hugely useful to Sellers.

“There are several benefits to this system,” Gedey explained. “The emails are coming from Amazon, not for you, so your business doesn’t come across as pushy or needy. Within the email it includes the relevant link to leave a review so it’s straight forward for the customer, and it also includes an image of the product they’ve bought so they’re immediately reminded of the item in question.

“It’s very user-friendly and it’s a really good way to generate organic reviews for your Amazon account in a completely ethical way - the template has been designed by Amazon and they want you to use it.

“All of the usual recommendations we would make for gaining positive reviews apply - maintaining best practice on several important fronts is the easiest way to garner good feedback. Your shipping, your returns policy and writing accurate product listings that fit all of Amazon’s guidelines will always be important.

“But this system can help naturally and has been designed by Amazon to help you acquire reviews without resorting to the black hat tactics we have written about before.

“The one potential negative to the ‘Request a Review’ button is that you have to manually click the button for every single sale you make, which could be extremely time consuming if you’re moving high volumes of products. But there are automated systems on the market that will automatically click that button for you for each sale, and it’s worth researching those if you believe the system will be beneficial for your business.
