Top Tips for Amazon Sellers on how to Grow their Online Business
Updated: Oct 15, 2019
With almost 200 million month visitors, Amazon is a vibrant but crowded market - so what can you do to help your business stand out?
As with any business market place there are countless success and failure stories, and Amazon sellers being on the right side of that divide can come down to a few insightful tips.
Craig Gedey, managing partner at Thompson and Holt said: “There are certain techniques and tips that Amazon sellers can use to help grow their business and boost sales.
“It’s a fantastic platform on which to sell quality products, but there are specific pointers that can help you stand out from the crowd online.”
Here are Thompson and Holt’s four main tips for Amazon success.
1. Ensure the photography of your product is high quality
The main photograph of your product is effectively the front page of a book or magazine. And it will be judged by buyers instantly, despite the old saying warning against exactly that. How your product looks on screen is absolutely vital to its selling potential, and it can be worth investing in professional photography for Amazon sellers - it’s that important. If you do decide to do it yourself, ensure the main imagine is perfectly clear on a white background - that is what the buyer will see first. Further images can then be used with different angles, how it works, and even packaging and branding to give a strong overall impression of what you’re selling.
2. Make your Amazon product stand out from the rest
There are several means of doing this. Research the keywords surrounding your product online to ensure they show up in search results, and then provide options such a colour variations and size. Even a slight different design or upgraded materials can help to catch the eye and give it an edge over a rival Amazon seller, providing the buyer with enviable options. As part of that you can also add a premium angle to what you’re selling, including added extras that can also increase its price.
3. Don’t underestimate the value of email
Email marketing is an absolutely integral part of any Amazon seller’s business, and should be treated as such. Set up an automated email campaign as a way to communicate with your customers, starting it with an automated email to follow up each sale. Part of that should be encouraging the buyer to leave a review on Amazon - thanking them for their purchase and checking everything was okay can be great avenues into asking politely for that.
The next step is collecting email addresses for future promotions, which can be done through systems such as ClickFunnels. Once that is set up, you can establish systems such as discounts and coupon offers for returning customers.
4. Get to grips with Amazon Pay-Per-Click
Getting your product to the front page in a crowded market place is crucial - and mastering Amazon Pay-Per-Click (PPC) can be hugely helpful. PPC is a form of advertising, and for a relatively low outlay, can boost your listing to the front page with the use of the correct keywords. Keep an eye on your analytics to check which keywords are performing the best, and then bid higher for those. Keep a strict record of what works and what doesn’t to make the most of your investment.
