Amazon is in the middle of its busiest time of the year - making it the most important time.

In fact, Amazon is in the midst of a record-breaking period, having reported that the five days from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday surpassed all previous numbers, with Monday itself now the single biggest shopping day in the company’s history.

2018 was Amazons largest year for sales.

Across those five days, Amazon said customers in America purchased millions more products than during the same period last year.

That can mean a boom period for Amazon sellers, but alongside the increased traffic and sales can also come problems - complaints and suspensions.

Thompson and Holt managing partner Craig Gedey explained: “We often see that in Amazon’s peak selling times there is also an increase in suspensions for sellers.

“Whether those are justified or not, that peak in selling activity means there is more likely to be customer complaints, and as a result, Amazon suspensions can follow.

“But because this is taking place during a period of huge online activity, it is more important than ever for businesses to start selling again as quickly as possible.

The figures that Amazon have released this week certainly back that statement up.

In a press release issued shortly after Cyber Monday - concluding what is known as the ‘Turkey 5’ period - Amazon outlined the following records.

* Sales by small and medium-sized businesses worldwide grew more than 20 percent on Black Friday year-over-year.

* Throughout the Turkey 5, Amazon.com customers ordered more than 180 million items.

* Prime members got into the Christmas spirit over the holiday weekend - Christmas lights were a bestseller on Prime Now.

* Customers ordered more than four million toys and electronics on the mobile app on Black Friday.

Jeff Wilke, Amazon’s CEO worldwide consumer, said: “Black Friday and Cyber Monday continue to break records on Amazon year over year, which tells us that customers love shopping for deals to kick off the holiday shopping season.

“With curated gift guides, convenient shopping experiences, incredible product selection, and free shipping with no minimum purchase amount, Amazon offers customers tremendous value—sure to deliver smiles all season long.”

The record-breaking Amazon five-day stretch was replicated elsewhere in holiday online shopping.

Adobe Analytics said Cyber Monday broke online records with $7.9 billion in sales in America, which Adobe calculated made it the single largest online shopping day in US history.

Adobe said the total online 2018 Cyber Monday sales represented a 19.3 percent increase year-over-year, and both Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday also saw significant increases. The company added that the Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving set a new record as the biggest online shopping weekend in the US, at $6.4 billion, growing faster than either Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
